Issues with the iPhone / iPod Touch Firmware

A small but significant number of people have been reporting issues with crashing or extreme lag or latency when running the applications. This is a widespread issue across all third-party applications on the App Store and is not specific to MooCowMusic.

The most reported error of this kind is that the application crashes shortly after startup and closes abruptly. Unterstandably this has aggravated many people who feel that that have just purchased something that they then cannot use. MooCowMusic is deeply sympathetic, but we unfortunately are in no position to fix the error as it lies outside our application. The solution for people experiencing this issue is to reboot the device. This has worked in every case reported to MooCowMusic. From the various iPhone forums, it seems that users are recommending rebooting the device periodically.

A very few people have reported "unacceptable latency". The latency levels for both apps are extremely good and unnoticable to most users. If you can detect any sort of latency that prevents you playing in time with a recorded part, then this is an error. Again, this is a reported problem with the latest firmware.

Apple have not officially recognised any issues with the firmware, but are known to be working on an update. We have no information on when that update will happen or what it will contain. They have, however, produced guide to "troubleshooting applications purchased from the app store" (a nice euphamism) which details the procedure for rebooting and reinstalling apps if necessary. This can be found here. We would advise you to read this document and to follow the procedures outlined. If you still have issues then you will need to contact iTunes Customer Support who will be able to advise you on what to do next.
